Why Is My TikTok Shop Video Restricted? Common Script Triggers Explained
Your TikTok Shop video got restricted or pulled. Here's exactly which script phrases trigger it — and how to fix them before you repost.
Why TikTok restricts Shop videos
TikTok's automated moderation scans video scripts, captions, and on-screen text for phrases that match its policy violation database. When a match is found, the video is either immediately restricted (hidden from For You feeds) or flagged for manual review. In either case, your affiliate commissions on that video stop accumulating until the restriction lifts — or permanently if the violation is severe.
Most creators assume the problem is the product itself. Usually it's three words in the script.
The most common script triggers
These are the phrase categories responsible for the majority of TikTok Shop video restrictions:
Medical / disease claims
Examples: "cures acne", "heals your gut", "eliminates anxiety"
Why it's flagged: TikTok treats any claim that a product treats, cures, or reverses a medical condition as a prohibited health claim — regardless of whether the product is actually a supplement or cosmetic.
Safe fix: Replace with experiential language: 'my skin has been looking clearer', 'I feel less bloated', 'I've been so much calmer'.
Guaranteed results
Examples: "guaranteed results", "I promise you'll see a difference", "money-back guarantee"
Why it's flagged: Absolute outcome guarantees violate TikTok's misleading content rules. Even a casual 'I promise' in context of a product result can trigger this category.
Safe fix: Use hedged language: 'so many people are loving how it works for them', 'this is what it did for me'.
False certifications
Examples: "FDA approved", "clinically proven", "lab certified"
Why it's flagged: Unless the product genuinely holds the certification and you can verify it, TikTok flags these as false advertising — and the brand bears liability too.
Safe fix: 'Made with carefully selected ingredients', 'formulated with [specific ingredient]'.
Absolute safety claims
Examples: "100% safe", "completely natural", "zero side effects"
Why it's flagged: Absolute claims about product safety or composition are treated as misleading because no product can be proven safe for all people in all circumstances.
Safe fix: 'Formulated without [specific thing]', 'I've been using it daily with no issues'.
Platform circumvention language
Examples: "DM me for the link", "find me on Instagram", "check my bio"
Why it's flagged: TikTok Shop prohibits steering buyers off-platform. Even implicit redirects can trigger this rule.
Safe fix: Keep buyers on TikTok Shop. Link everything through your affiliate product card.
How to fix a restricted video
- Identify the trigger phrase. Go to your TikTok Shop Creator Center → Content Health → find the restricted video.
- Audit your script. Upload the original video directly to BanProof — it transcribes the audio and scans video frames for on-screen text violations, flagging exact phrases and giving you a compliant rewrite.
- Refilm with the clean script. Do not simply re-upload the same video — TikTok's system will re-flag it.
- Appeal if needed. Use BanProof's appeal assistant to generate a professional, policy-aligned appeal within TikTok's 800-character limit in seconds. Write your appeal →
