Amazon Associates Now Requires Orders to Close Within 180 Days for Commission

Amazon updated its Associates Operating Agreement effective April 14, 2026, adding a firm 180-day cutoff on commission eligibility. If a referred purchase doesn't ship, stream, or download — and get paid for — within that window, the commission simply doesn't count anymore.

Per Amazon's updated Operating Agreement, a qualifying purchase must be shipped, streamed, or downloaded AND paid for within 180 days of the customer clicking your affiliate link. Miss that window on either condition and the commission is void, regardless of how the sale originated.

Fast-moving categories (everyday retail, consumables) are barely affected — most orders ship within days. The real exposure is pre-orders, made-to-order items, backordered stock, and long-shipping-time imports, where a legitimate referral can quietly age out past 180 days before the seller even ships it. If a meaningful share of your traffic goes to pre-order or slow-fulfillment listings, this is worth checking.
