Amazon Affiliate Appeal Letter: Template + What Reviewers Actually Read

Amazon's affiliate appeal process gives you one text box and no guidance. What you write in that box determines whether you get reinstated or lose your account permanently. Most appeal letters fail for the same three reasons: they are too long, they address the wrong violation, or they describe future intentions instead of completed corrective actions.

The 4 Components Amazon Reviewers Need

Amazon's review team is looking for four things in every appeal: (1) a clear statement of which specific rule was violated — not a general acknowledgment but the actual Operating Agreement section, (2) an explanation of how the violation occurred without excuses, (3) a list of corrective actions already taken in past tense, and (4) a forward-looking compliance commitment that references the specific rule. An appeal missing any of these four components is typically rejected without escalation to a senior reviewer.

Appeal Letter Template

'I am writing to appeal the termination of my Amazon Associates account [ID]. My account was terminated for [specific violation — e.g., promotional method violation related to paid search traffic directed to Amazon product pages]. I understand this violates Section [X] of the Amazon Associates Operating Agreement. Here is what occurred and what I have done to correct it: [2–3 sentences explaining how the violation happened]. Corrective actions I have already completed: (1) [specific action taken, past tense], (2) [specific action taken, past tense], (3) [specific action taken, past tense]. I have reviewed the current Operating Agreement and my promotional methods now comply fully with program policies. I am committed to maintaining compliance and request reinstatement of my account.'

The Opening That Signals Understanding

The most important sentence in your appeal is the first one that names the specific violation. Amazon reviewers process dozens of appeals per day. An opening that says 'I believe my account was terminated in error' signals the appeal will not acknowledge the violation — and routes it toward rejection. An opening that names the exact rule communicates that the affiliate understands what happened. This single change is responsible for more reinstatements than any other element of appeal writing.

How to Describe Corrective Action Credibly

Corrective actions must be specific, completed, and verifiable. 'I will no longer use paid ads' is not a corrective action — it is a promise. 'I paused all Google Ads and Bing Ads campaigns on [date] and removed all Amazon affiliate links from ad destinations' is a corrective action. If your corrective actions happened before you received the termination notice, say so — it demonstrates that you identified and fixed the issue proactively rather than only after enforcement. If you can attach screenshots of the completed actions, include them.

Mistakes That Guarantee Rejection

Five mistakes account for the majority of rejected affiliate appeals: writing more than 300 words (signals inability to identify the core issue), starting with 'I believe this was a mistake' (non-acknowledgment), listing future plans instead of completed actions, not naming the specific Operating Agreement section violated, and using emotional language about the impact on income or livelihood. Amazon's reviewers are evaluating compliance understanding, not making a judgment about the financial hardship. Keep the letter factual, specific, and brief.

If You Do Not Know Which Rule You Broke

Amazon's termination notice is often vague — 'promotional method violation' covers a dozen different infractions. If you cannot identify the specific rule, start by auditing these in order: paid traffic sources, FTC disclosure placement, traffic quality (self-referrals, incentivized clicks), and content claims about products. Most affiliate terminations fall into one of these four categories. Run your site through a compliance audit before submitting your appeal — submitting without knowing the violation guarantees a second rejection.
